My response to this rebuttal of my WSJ piece in the NYT:

/ Conservatives didn't invent ROGD and it isn't a political designation; it's a term Lisa Littman used - and it is a clinical term; she's a public health researcher and medical doctor.

/ If you don't like the term "ROGD," the point still stands: This is a social contagion. Adolescent girls, mentored by friends, encouraged by internet gurus and psychotherapists are self-diagnosing as "gender dysphoric" and demanding testosterone and surgeries.
/ Gender clinics are complying -- even with minors -- without even requiring a psych evaluation. These girls are very troubled. They have social issues. Their anxiety rages. But rather than acting like adults, apprising them of the grievous health risks of massive doses of T,
/ rather than alerting them of the hysterectomies in their future, and so many unknowables (because, of course, testosterone must be administered in absolutely massive doses to produce the desired effect), doctors comply; friends celebrate.
/ Nervous parents are called 'transphobic.' They aren't. Of the 17 families I spoke to, only 2 were conservative politically; the rest were politically progressive. More importantly, the parents are concerned with their anxious adolescents undergoing irreversible physical trauma
/ I didn't write the headline, but it was no insult: If a girl's insisting on testosterone and asking to have her healthy breast tissue removed isn't an attempt to "defy biology," I don't know what is.
/ THE POINT: If my college aged-daughter went off college and decided she was trans, I'd want a doctor to act like a grown up, tell her that she's setting herself up for a lifetime dependency on T + hysterectomy, investigate other psych issues.
/ And, @JennyBoylan, if you later decide that taking up the ukulele was a mistake, you're only out $100 - not two healthy breasts and uterus.
