WaPo report about shutdown's effect on prisons: "meanwhile, few things have changed for prisoners, who continue to receive food and medical care"

what were they supposed to do, starve people in cages? What's the point of continuously pointing this out like some kind of gotcha?
disproportionate focus on prison guards, feds, TSA & other cops is a variation on our media's default troop worship. Meanwhile EPA inspectors and SEC regulators total absence solicits a yawn. Entire native territories are w/o pay, healthcare & snowed in solicits a bigger yawn.
please god stop doing this. Federal prisoners get paid as low as 23 cents an hour &, you know, live in cages. Stop using prisoners being paid slave wages as some gotcha on not paying guards who, you know, have their freedom & get 100% of their backpay when the “shutdown” is over
you really don’t have to take a massive dump on the most vulnerable people in the country to get a gotcha story on Trump. Really there are about a million better criticisms of the shutdown other than “prisoners are eating food and not being denied their slave wages”
Another prison guard union press release from WaPo, days after their "I been eatin like a boss" scare piece about prisoners committing the crime of eating.

1400 words
20 quotes from prison guards/officials & prison guard union reps
0 from actual prisoners
and 0 quotes/claims from prison reform or prison legal service providers. A 1400-word article laden with images of animalistic prisoners randomly attacking guards and not a single sympathetic voice for the prisoners or a prisoner could be contacted. They simply don't exist.
police & prison guard unions have every incentive to sensationalize & exaggerate the threats they face. It's their entire PR strategy; it's how the win concessions for their union from the public. Mindlessly repeating claims of being attacked/threatened w/o evidence is reckless.
