The View's Megan McCain once lost it when people assumed most Trump voters are racist. She used her dad as an example of why she couldn't be racist, but never cited his vote against MLK day and against the Civil Rights Act.
The root of it is a simplistic view about racism and bigotry. Which makes sense, considering she's not ever at the gun barrel's end or bank's end of daily racism from every corner. It's even understandable.
And the other root of it is Tamika's is not so simplistic, because of the impact Nation of Islam had being, often, the only groups able to protect Black folks in cities under siege by state powered racism.
My own experiences as a Jewish kid living in predominantly black public housing with NOI complicated something that would otherwise be black and white as well. I don't fault others for not having the same experience.
The fact simply is, you can have two PhDs who studied racism for decades, who would still make new ground in arguments with each other. Yet we pretend that any of us who are not Black are experts who don't need help.
But it's not unlike any other study or science, it deserves experts and deserves our questioning and learning and allowing the space to let it unravel.
As we deliberate, may heaven help us reach each other in love before Nazis reach us otherwise.
You see, I just did it too. Because for me it's simpler. The idea of Nazis coming in the US is very new for me and many of us. However, it erases the daily experiences of every Black person in America because we're calling out white supremacist like it's new.
So what I did was racist. Because I'm an American. What I am not is irredeemable. Nobody is if you have love and if your vision for a just victory includes everyone.
The idea of Nazis growing in the US is very new for me and many of us. However, it deletes the daily experiences of every Black person in America because we're calling out white supremacism like it is new because now it is us.
Like America was "discovered" too. On our timeline as a culture.

We're ready to call it what it is as it approaches us slowly from a distance. But have accepted what it has been for hundreds of years for our siblings.
It must have hurt to be sitting there as the woman, McCain, who denies most racism in America interrogated Mallory. McCain who has used the name of her father who used state power to harm Black people with vast state resources.
But it also hurt for many Jews to hear the refusal to denounce him directly. Even if there are valid feminist arguments against it, or valid race concepts at play. Even if the person asking it was being malicious and ill informed.
Even if it is true & it is 100% true, many racists themselves are using this as a trophy to prove they got u. Even if many of the people demanding it, don't demand it of themselves with Republicans, right wing occupation supporters, their own families and friends and so on.
It is still, viscerally - biologically - scary for any people holding historical trauma to hear hesitation to name danger.
Even for me, someone who is ride or die with Women's March, and someone who would nod their head in the affirmative about NOI literally saving people's lives in front of me.

Even if I love the person doing it. Even if it would be racist and sexist to expect someone to do it.
I'm here because I see big changes happening inside & outside. And also because family in itself is a reward and keeping families together are the only thing that can win.

Hmm, it might be also what Tamika is thinking about all Black Americans and doing the same. Just a thought.
I've put these messy thoughts together here. Thanks #WomensWave
