NEW: As @Liz_Cheney and others on Hill nudge King toward the exits, Iowa Rs are creating a super pac to oust him & even some conservative allies have had enough of the drama

“Who cares who the mayor of Toronto is when you’re from Northwest Iowa?”

nytimes.com/2019/01/15/us/…
Rs see King as a gift for Ds and are eager to excommunicate him. But as @michael_steel notes, King’s demise won’t address their larger problem.

“Whatever we do on Steve King is on the margins compared to what the president says and does”
What, besides the blunt-force nature of his most recent comments, nudged Republicans to move this time? He only won his (very safe) seat by a little over three pts in November, Rs think he’ll give it away if he’s on ballot in ‘20
Btw, King is the vehicle for a very interesting sidebar in current (and future) House leadership dynamics: Cheney, the third-ranking and newest member of leadership, taking a harder line on King than the top two leaders, McCarthy and Scalise.
Some NEWS on that super pac we mentioned in yesterday’s piece: iowafour.com going live today

It’s being led by former Iowa speaker and Siouxland’s own @C_Rants. Will target King and promote one of his primary challengers, @RandyFeenstra
