Literally everyone in this stupid business has an A+ "crazy guy at the junket/Q&A" horror story and I want to hear everybody's right fucking now.
Here's mine: the year INSIDIOUS played SXSW, I interviewed @creepypuppet and Leigh Whannell somewhere in the bowels of the Four Seasons. Round tables, maybe 5 people at a go. This one guy comes in a minute or two late, sits down, joins the rotation.
When it comes time for him to get a question in, he points out a black cat that appears in an establishing shot of the house. Was that intentional? Wan's like, "Haha, no, that was an accident, but we left the shot in because, y'know, it's a black cat!" Good answer. We move on.
So a few minutes goes by and it comes back around to this dude and immediately he's like, "Now, about that cat..." and asks another question about the cat: was it someone on the crew's? A stray? Who owned the cat? Wan's like, "Haha, ah, no idea! It was just there." We move on.
Gets back around to the Cat Guy, and everyone's kinda glancing at each other like "holy fuck is he gonna ask about the cat again I think he's gonna" and my hand to god, the guy goes, "What happened to the cat afterwards?" and the table just explodes laughing.
Wan, one of the nicest dudes you could ever meet, is laughing, but also maybe on the brink of being exasperated. Which of course only makes it funnier. He's like, "Hey look man - I dunno. No idea about the cat." There's a sense of finality to this. And then, IIRC, our time was up
Anyway. I think about this every time I see a black cat. Hell, I think about it every time someone mentions INSIDIOUS. So, y'know, thanks for that, weird INSIDIOUS Junket Cat Guy! /End
