!! That evening, CBS's Phil Jones reported Ford's visit to the Capitol, which included remarks before the Senate, and then the House, was for "no particular reason -- just an informal courtesy call, which totally disrupted the legislative branch of government."
"He joined former Presidents Truman, Johnson, Kennedy, and Nixon, who made similar courtesy calls," Jones reported. "Although Nixon was up only once in his 5-and-a-half years."
