1/ To those who say it's time for the House to start impeachment proceedings, the fact is they already have. Informally, but just as effectively; indeed, more so. After all, the Watergate Cmte hearings weren't formal impeachment hearings & yet they sure did drive impeachment.
2/ What are "informal" impeachment proceedings? The investigations now underway in multiple House committees, including Oversight & Reform, Intel, Ways & Means, and Judiciary. Efficient & effective parallel processing. Each potentially finding evidence justifying impeachment.
3/ But starting "formal" impeachment proceedings now, which is what @YAppelbaum recommends in his @TheAtlantic piece theatlantic.com/magazine/archi… would move the process into one committee, typically Judiciary.
4/ Unless you want HJC to take control of all investigations, which would be bad in many ways, why start "formal" proceedings now? The only *arguable* upside (I see it as a downside) wld be the House could then say, "We've started impeachment proceedings against President Trump."
5/ The work of the Watergate Committee led eventually to the start of "formal" impeachment proceedings against Nixon. The multiple House committees now investigating Trump should be allowed to serve (in the aggregate) the same function the Watergate Committee did 46 years ago.
