@sgfrothingham ICYMI: 2018 Election garnered an impressive voter turnout rate of 53%, compared to 44% in 2014-- despite the fact that 2018 was a "blue moon" election year, absent races for US Senate, Governor, or President to drive turnout. More: demnc.co/2018turnout #ncpol
@sgfrothingham Only 3 North Carolina counties saw voter turnout rates decrease in 2018 compared to 2014. Of those, 2 received federal assistance after Hurricane Florence. The third saw Early Voting sites slashed by the #ncga’s SB325. #ncpol
@sgfrothingham Black voter turnout increased 6 points, to 48% in 2018. For Black women, turnout matched the statewide rate for all voters, 53% — and was up 7 points from 2014. #ncpol
@sgfrothingham In North Carolina, more than 2x the number of Asian-American voters and Hispanic or Latino voters cast ballots in 2018, compared to 2014. Turnout rates were up 17 points for Asian-American voters, and 15 points for Hispanic or Latino voters. #ncpol
@sgfrothingham Turnout among NC's youngest voters (18 to 25) increased 11 points in 2018, from 29% in 2014 to 39% in 2018 statewide. In Watauga, home of @appstate, youth turnout jumped 21 points, and youth made up 25% of voters in 2018, compared to 15% in 2014. #ncpol
@sgfrothingham @appstate Along party lines, North Carolina’s unaffiliated voters also grew dramatically—from 35% turnout in 2014 to 46% in 2018. This year, NC’s unaffiliated voters cast 28% of the ballots in the state. #ncpol
@sgfrothingham @appstate Of the 4 constitutional amendments approved by NC voters in 2018, Photo ID passed by the narrowest margin. While opposition to amendments was generally centered in urban hubs, all 8 NC counties home to a majority of Black registered voters voted against ID. #ncpol
