2017 MLB Statcast data

let's clear up some misconceptions

Avg Launch Ang is good gage for how a player mis-hits the ball, not what a hitters Avg Attack Angle is

only 31% correlation between Avg AA & LAng

👀 at Matt Chapman (21 LAng/11 AA) & Howie Kendrick (1.5 LAng/12.5 AA)
Misconception #2

higher Attack Angle leads to more Ks

Votto: 2nd highest Avg Attack Angle in MLB 2017 & one of the lowest K-rates

only 11% correlation between hitters Avg AA and K-rate

to attribute Attack Angle as the reason for a players K-rate is 👎

it's not that simple
Avg Attack Angle was calc'd by taking Avg Launch Angle of the top 10% of all batted balls

here is a list of the highest & lowest Attack Angles and some other Statcast-based data metrics
