One thing the @aoc-led discussion of marginal tax rates has revealed is that how happily ignorant many rich people are of US economic history.
Today, Dell Founder, Michael Dell: washingtonpost.com/technology/201…
Its telling that the Davos-set are equating a serious proposal, supported by many economists, to rethink marginal tax rates as a form of populism akin to the guy who called Mexican rapists and threatened to lock up his enemies.

Full disclosure, Professor Ken Mayer is a co-author and friend of mine. I have also met a couple of times with Dave Murphy, who is not any old legislator, but the chair the Assembly higher education committee, and found him to be a very nice guy. 2/
First, lets present what it is that was so offensive. In his syllabus, the professor noted that there are two very different views about Trump. Murphy charges that using such language demonstrates bias that disqualifies the professor. 3/

Grover Norquist knows how marginal tax rates works. He and his organization has done more to shape our current tax system than perhaps anyone else.
The point of this tweet is to underline that much of the conservative DC brains-trust are perfectly comfortable with propaganda. 1/
For those of you unfamiliar, Norquist is the leader of Americans for Tax Reform, whose great policy contribution has been to coerce Republican elected officials into signing a pledge to never raise taxes, promising to primary anyone who doesn't sign. 2/ newyorker.com/news/news-desk…
Norquist is hugelyy influential, nominally because of his tax policy expertise. But given his obvious bad-faith arguments, why give him op-ed space? Every time he testifies in Congress, lawmakers first question should be "why should we take anything you say seriously?" 3/

The debate about campus speech is a lot easier to understand when you get that it is mostly driven by people who care neither about campus or speech, but instead dislike universities because they assume they foster liberal thought. And its not just the US.
Authoritarian Orban in Hungary not just shut down an independent university - the definition of state censorship. He is also obsessed with removing gender studies from higher education. 2/ edition.cnn.com/2018/10/19/eur…

Hoyer is clearly confused about how to respond and is offering mealy mouthed Republican-lite talking points in place of a vision of Democratic governance.

Fair Share of Taxes

Don't buy the socialist crap about who does and doesn't pay 'fair share' of taxes. The burden of taxes in the U.S. falls fairly and squarely on the upper income brackets.

As I have written extensively, the ONLY way to grow govt revenue is through GDP growth.
1. Paul Krugman has penned a fallacious article on "The Economics of Soaking the Rich" to suck up to and normalize Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's brain-fart about raising the marginal tax rate to 70-80%.

2. Krugman's sole appeal to authority is an arcane 2011 academic paper by economists Diamond & Saez in which, based on much mathematical skulduggery, they opined that the optimal marginal tax rate for the U.S. is ... 73%. I am surprised they rounded it to a whole percentage.

Right now, it looks like Democrats are on track to pick up 35 seats.

At their Crystal Ball site, @LarrySabato and @kkondik predicted a Democratic gain of 34 seats. crystalball.centerforpolitics.org/crystalball/ar…
Likewise, @databyler at @weeklystandard also predicted the Democrats would wind up with 228 seats in the House, which translates to a pickup of 34 seats.
