People use this for news. If journos not here, they lose ability to represent their work, rely on others to do so. You can argue for operational standards--but same true for all /1
The greatest value of Twitter for participants as opposed to observers is the network. I have made many, many valuable connections with professionals I rely on via this iteration of the idiot box.

Twitter is a powerful tool -- which is exactly why it is being exploited.

But it doesn't need to be that way.

And professionals who deal in the collection and dissemination of information not being here would be a mistake. /preach /6
