What we've witnessed over the last 2 days is the typical fallout from a Screening programme that was "doomed to fail". There has been fear and anxiety injected into the women and families of Ireland AGAIN on the back of this. Smear tests saves lives and (1)
All women need to continue going for smears even though it's participating in a programme where trust has been eroded. My priorities haven't changed, I will continue to fight for change, so we have the best screening programme all the women and families of Ireland can rely on (2)
And trust.This can and WILL be done by implementing Scallys 50 recommendations, by bringing in HPV Screening to reduce the limitations within screening further and also by preventive measures like the HPV vaccinations for boys/girls and educating parents on the role they have (3)
To play to fight against this disease to. Only until we have all those pillars in place we can start shouting that Ireland will ERADICATE THIS HPV VIRUS ONCE AND FOR ALL. No more unnecessary deaths like my wife Irene but as important no more young innocent children crying (4)
Into their pillows at night calling out for their mothers like my children and the late Emma's. This is my ultimate goal and I will fight to the bitter end to ensure it is achieved #cervicalcancerdebacle @SimonHarrisTD
