THREAD: This is what we like to call around here “hot garbage”. First, it loses everyone the instant that it compares advertisers leaving shows with highly divisive overtones to the “Red Scare”. And yet, somehow, some way, it gets dumber from there.
Advertisers leave these shows because many of them are racist or sexist, pure and simple. None of these brands want to be associated with a show that says immigrants make our country “dirtier” or that women’s advancement causes higher rates of incarceration and alcoholism.
This person is supposed to be in advertising and yet doesn’t seem to understand the simple concept that advertisers don’t want to support things that don’t reflect their brand values. By conflating it with politics, he gives cover to the bigotry that’s featured on these shows.
According to this, the answer is that advertisers should just continue to support everything. Why don’t they just place ads on The Daily Stormer, then? Why aren’t there advertisers on 4Chan? How come they’re not clamoring for airtime on Infowars?
Advertisers have always supported programming that reflects their brands and appeal to as many consumers as possible. Why should they be obligated to support shows that actively divide people on the basis of race, gender and immigration status?
They shouldn’t. That would be colossally stupid.

Kind of like this op-ed.
