New York's legislature is set to pass more than a half-dozen gun control bills today, even as the state's previous gun control package, the SAFE Act, is rife with failure. A brief thread. 1/ thedailystar.com/news/local_new…
NY Governor Andrew Cuomo was a big supporter of the SAFE Act's ban on magazines over 7 rounds. Judges have ruled it unconstitutional and DA's are saying they won't enforce it. 2/

Then there's the SAFE Act mandate that every ammo purchase go through a background check. Years after it was supposed to go into effect, the state can't figure out how to do it, and now Cuomo is saying it's not a "significant aspect" of the SAFE Act. 3/

The SAFE Act also required every legal handgun owner to re-register their already registered gun with the state. The deadline was January 31st of last year, but after massive non-compliance, the state gave gun owners one more year to comply. 4/

Back when the local press bothered to look into the effectiveness of the SAFE Act, they found that most prosecutions were for things that were already illegal before the SAFE Act was even passed. 7/

Most SAFE Act charges are for "criminal possession of a firearm", which was upgraded from a misdemeanor to a felony charge.

Oddly enough, criminal justice reform advocates in the state appear to be on board with sending people to prison for non-violent possessory offenses. 8/
You might think Cuomo and lawmakers would be trying to fix their broken gun control laws instead of eagerly putting more on the books, but unfortunately they seem to be more interested in press releases and public relations than public safety. 9/9

If you listen to the clip, he’s clearly telling a story and building to the point of Lincoln appointing Grant as Lt. General and head of Army of the Potomac, where he proceeded to take Lee on and win where other Union generals had failed. Y’all are such hacks.
Trump speaks of the Union generals that came before Grant; great generals, head of their class at West Point, but they didn’t know how to win. And Trump is right. McClellan was a disaster, and would have preferred to keep his army in camp instead of fighting. 2/
Ambrose Burnside replaced McClellan after Antietam in November of 1862. Lincoln wanted a fighter, and Burnside presented a plan to take Richmond. He never got there, suffering a massive defeat at Fredericksburg, VA in December of ‘62. 3/

A brief thread to emphasize Jesse’s point. On Long Island, anti-gun activists and local Dem politicians recently mounted a campaign to get a local event hall to void their contract to host the Nassau County @FriendsofNRA dinner. It did not go as they hoped it would. 1/
In Brooklyn, anti-gun activists and local Dem politicians were able to get three venues to back out of their contract with the locals Friends of NRA committee before Knights of Columbus hall agreed to host. The activists on LI had a playbook to follow. 2/ newsday.com/long-island/su…

I’m gonna try to distract myself from thinking about tomorrow (and now get that stupid Fleetwood Mac song out of my head) with a little thread on the deplatforming of another controversial media figure from an earlier day: Dr. J.R Brinkley, the “goat gland doctor”. 1/
John Romulus Brinkley was a real doctor. Or at least he had a certificate from something called the Kansas City Eclectic Medical University and in 1915 that was good enough to practice medicine in eight states. Dr. Brinkley was in business. 2/
In 1918, he moved to Milford, Kansas and set up a fairly large clinic during the Spanish Flu epidemic. But it wasn’t until the following year that he hit upon his genius idea of grafting bits of goat balls onto human testicles to increase virility. 3/

2/n #Hinduism is a reduced nomenclature given to the Sanatana Dharma by British in 1830s. The word Hinduism is formed by adding suffix ISM to Hindu.

ISM is defined as a distinctive practice, system, or philosophy, typically a political ideology or an artistic movement.
3/n It must be understood that Hindu term always had geo-cultural meaning covering for people residing amid Sindhu River, Himalayas & Indu Sagar. Then in this case adding suffix ISM is nothing but mocking English Language. Eg, u can’t add Ism to Japanese and call Japaneism.

Many prominent people were involved with this Cosmic Movement as we will see. One of them was Tomáš Masaryk (who became the first President of Czechoslovakia) also the Princess of Rohan in Vienna and many others. However this group was actually a spin-off of the OTO.
