Civil rights groups, organized labor, advocacy orgs like ADA, pols like Paul Douglas, Hubert Humphrey, & Walter Mondale, good government groups--across much of the 20th century, they championed majority rule in the Senate as a tenet of both democratic fairness & liberal progress.
They were right! And their efforts belie the notion that opposition to an institution intended by none of the architects of this country's political system and found nowhere else in the democratic world is some radical or outrageous position. /end
