Italy held a regional election in Abruzzo yesterday.

- Centre-right winning with nearly 50% (Lega largest party with 28%)

- M5S below 20% are the election’s big losers

- Centre-left 31.5% (PD 11.5%)

Salvini strengthening his grip on both centre-right coalition and country.
The result is broadly in line with trends in recent national polls. Always difficult to compare local votes with national elections, but this is a useful comparison between yesterday’s election and 2018 national election result in the region:
It should no longer surprise anyone, but what makes the Lega result all the more extraordinary is that when Abruzzo last voted in a regional election, in 2014, Lega didn’t even run
