I went out without my hijab today for the first time ever since I was 11 years old. I can feel my heart soar when I felt the wind in my hair. So this is what freedom feels like.
I'm not out to my parents yet about my decision to remove my hijab. That convo will be too exhausting to my mental health plus i don't feel like justifying my life decision to anyone. So I'll still need to pretend I wear hijab in front of them for my own piece of mind. For now.
Today is still a victory to me. I sat in my car and took off this hot, restrictive & repressive piece of cloth that has been wrapped on my head since I was 11. Today I got a taste of freedom. One day i'll move out and start living fully free.
I just would like to point out that freedom can mean different things to other women. I feel free without my hijab. Other muslim women feel free in their hijab because to them it's an act of worship to their Creator. The point is STOP controlling what women wear.
Yes, many muslim women are forced/pressured to wear hijab. Equally as many muslim women wear hijab voluntarily for their personal religious belief, just like in any other religions with their own religious practices. This is not a hard concept to grasp.
Fight for the believe that women should have the autonomy and basic rights to dress the way they want. Let grown women dress however they please.

I appreciate the support I've been receiving but please don't use MY personal struggle as an agenda to further your bigotry.
