Starting a new thread here on how the Senate GOP bill doesn't extend TPS either and actually guts it, including going forward. It is entirely new program & new restrictive status. Media should stop reporting that the bill would extend TPS
First, it only applies to four nationalities. Nepal, Sierre Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Sudan are, for whatever reason, left off, meaning that it is wrong to claim that it extends TPS in general for those harmed by Trump’s cancellations
The bill wouldn’t allow automatic extension of work eligibility, as a TPS extension would, meaning that TPS recipients would need to be approved for work authorization before they could work legally again

PSA: Trump reportedly offered to extend DACA for 3 years. But that is NOT what McConnell’s bill does. It replaces DACA with an entirely new program that is far more restrictive than DACA, excluding Dreamers who would be, or are already, eligible for or even in DACA now
Start here. P. 1235 makes it much more difficult for Dreamers to prove eligibility. As USCIS says, the “clear & convincing” standard is now rarely used and for applicants who the government has reasons to be suspicious of (eg a prior fraudulent marriage). This is a BIG change
In addition to all of the fees for DACA, the bill imposes what it calls a “security fee” (i.e. a penalty)—which would essentially double the cost of the application. According to @MigrationPolicy, cost is the number 1 barrier to Dreamers getting DACA

Alex published the first report of its kind comparing illegal and legal immigrant arrest and conviction rates in Texas to U.S.-born Americans, showing that illegal immigrants have much lower conviction and arrest rates including for homicides cato.org/publications/i…
I published the first ever estimate of terrorism vetting failures, showing that since 9/11, the rate of vetting failure has declined 84 percent, permitting the entry of just 1 radicalized terrorist for every 29 million approvals since 9/11 cato.org/publications/p…

(A) there has been a dramatic increase in people crossing our border over time, (B) there is an increase in crime with an increase in immigration, and immigrants commit more crimes than those within our borders, and/or (C) current strategies for border security are ineffective.

New study from @TheFGA compares cost and quantity of available short-term plans with Obamacare plans by state.

Every Senate Democrat voted to ban short-term plans.

In St Louis, Missouri the average Obamacare premium is $465.84. The average short-term plan premium is $135.99, 71% less.

There are 10 choices of Obamacare individual market plans and 108 choices of short-term plans.

In light of what's going on with #Dreamers, it's time to talk about Japanese internment.

Because the #DACA showdown is Japanese internment 2.0.
Japanese immigrants in the 19th & early 20th centuries came to the US in large part for manual farm labor in California.

Sound familiar?
Japan had much more advanced horticulture than the US at that time, so these immigrants weren't just bringing brute labor. They were bringing a lot of basic how-to's of commercial farming that built the foundation for California's success as an agricultural powerhouse today.
