“death penalty repeal had passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday by a unanimous vote.”

Passed the House by safe margin.

Voted down in Senate,12-18.
Nationally, the death penalty was reinstated in 1973.

Since then, approximately 165 death row inmates have been exonerated across the country.

And only 20 states (of the 31 with death penalty laws) had executed someone in 15 years last August.
