Let’s destroy the Climate Change narrative in one tweet, shall we? Look very closely at the collage below. Notice anything interesting?

#ClimateChangeScam #ClimateChangeHoax
2 - What is clearly illustrated above is that each nation needs to propagate that IT is facing a more dire crisis than any other nation. How can this be? Can every nation actually be warming at 2-3x the Global Average??? NO! It is pure #Propaganda
3 - We are then told that in order to remedy the dire local crisis, we need local solutions and taxes. But how can a local solution or tax revenue result in a local improvement to the (alleged) climate change problem? Climate is a Global NOT a Local issue.

Today I am speaking to you in the first person, because while I am a part of a larger whole, it’s important to take off the mask and tell you the truth. I am a woman. I am a veteran. I am a STEM major. #IEndorseBernie because...
I was in my early 20’s in the 2008 financial crash and managed to find food even though my single mother was making $8.25/hr at Walmart mart. We didn’t qualify for food stamps cause we made too much money in Kansas City. We had to hide our car often; she was behind on payments.
When @Joshua4Congress says #povertyisthedraft, he is 100% right. I joined out of desperation. I was homeless because of a few missteps, even though I had a job. I was not making enough money to live close to work, and we lost the car.

Yesterday I lived through an "extreme weather event". Those words fail to convey the violence of what happened. A storm cell with apocalyptic hail hit Warrandyte and many other places. These events are in the news daily and are now starting to become commonplace.

1/

#auspol
Formerly the weather was a short segment that came at the end of the news. Now it is the news, and the deeds and decisions of humans gets scant attention. This is because of the changes we have made to the planet and to its systems; because of climate change.

2/

#BurningPlanet
Climate change threatens us in so many ways. It pollutes the air we breathe, reduces the amount of water we have to drink and threatens the supply of food that we eat. Climate change can destroy the buildings we live in and the machines that we use.

🤦🏻‍♂️.... ok, this has been going on for two days, now, and showing no signs of stopping. So, let’s be clear:

2 days ago, CNN “Reported” that 4 unnamed Warren staffers say that, over a year ago, Bernie told Warren that “A woman can’t win the Presidency”. 1/
....four decades of evidence of Sanders saying exactly the opposite, and the fact that he encountered Warren to run in the 2016 election means nothing to CNN, it seems.... 2/
This, it seems, is ‘journalism’. What passes for hair salon gossip is just as good as real news on what we’re told to believe is a real new station. CNN bristled at being called ‘fake news’ but thinks gossip is the same thing as journalism? Ok....3/

Aujourd’hui on va parler d’une composante importante dans le système climatique planétaire: l’océan. Quels sont les changements en cours, lesquels sont à venir ? Quelles conséquences pour les écosystèmes et populations ?

The candidates in last night's #DemDebate were eager to talk about the #ClimateEmergency, but the moderators kept shutting them down.

What kind of press corps knows less about politics than the candidates they're holding accountable?

THREAD
@brianneDMR from the @DMRegister should learn that trade policy IS an arm of climate policy.

@CNN should train @wolfblitzer & @abbydphillip to see the ways #ClimateChange intersects with jobs, health care, national security, foreign policy, and economic sustainability.

2/
@brianneDMR @DMRegister @CNN @wolfblitzer @abbydphillip #ClimateChange is not a discrete issue for its own silo.

#ClimateChange is remaking the only planetary system that supports our civilization; solving it involves every sector of our economy & politics.

#ClimateChange links to everything discussed in any political debate.

Today @ScienceBrief publishes its first Rapid Response Review on #wildfire risks

sciencebrief.org/briefs/rrr-hea…

**All** 57 scientific papers show linkages between #climatechange and increased #fireweather

@richardabetts @pepcanadell @uniofeastanglia @tyndallcentre @clequere
#FireWeather refers to periods when fire is more likely due to hot, dry, and often windy conditions

Fire weather is an overall measure of the flammability of the landscape - increases suggest rising fire risk
Observations show that fire weather seasons have lengthened across ~25% of the Earth’s vegetated surface, resulting in a ~20% increase in the length of the fire weather season on average globally

I sat with my father and his partner and his cousin and contemporaries over Xmas in QLD and here were their taking points:
1. #ClimateChange is not real; it was hot like this in the 60’s #AustraliaBurning is not the fault of @ScottMorrisonMP it is the fault of the “far left”....
... it is the fault of the “greenies” and all fires were lit by arsonists ..
2. Donald Trump “is a great President” and “has really improved the economy of the USA,” Sanders will be wiped off the floor and he will win a “landslide” in 2020. I think the saddest thing about this..
... is that my father is a well travelled relatively well educated in the school of life kind of bloke. He has travelled around the world more times than I have had glasses of rose. But he represents quintessentially the #okboomer backlash. He and his cronies watch #credlin ...

@AsiKym China, the world's largest nation and largest emitter isn't doing as well. However they're the world leaders in renewable energy installation and moving in the right direction, albeit not as fast as they were, due in part to trade war with US.

In year 6 (2001) we had to do a project on "Disasters" and students did Pompeii or whatever and I decided to be a smartarse and do mine on "Global Warming". It is now the most depressing document I own. Let's take a look. (Thread) #climatechange
If an 11yo in 2001 can use NASA stats to warn against #climatechange then what's @ScottMorrisonMP 's excuse? In my introduction I illustrate (literally) how Australia in 2001 was a ticking time bomb: "Global warming is a disaster waiting to happen" was my opening line. Punchy.
I then list the changes that will happen "if we do nothing to reduce the amount of CO2 & other greenhouse gasses". News: it's not good. Temp, sea level rises, dying rainforests, drought, famine and disease are on the agenda #climateemergency

Great question

1. I’ve committed to talk about #climatechange in each & every #globalhealth lecture I give from now on so that every student has a sense of urgency plus the language and some tools to address it

2. I’m also committing to academic & practical work from this point on which links directly to #planetaryhealth & social/environmental justice. See for example the new @StemaHealth which is heavily influenced by these ideas stema.org

Here is a thread about UK Parliament's discussion of the #AustralianBushfires and its propagation of a climate denialist narrative, and about where Ministers get their information from.
1. In the UK Parliament yesterday, 9 Jan 2020,
Richard Drax MP asked:

"Can the Minister help us understand how these fires started? Arson plays a role. Does she have any evidence or feedback from the Australian Government on how the fires physically started?"
2. The Minister in question, @HeatherWheeler, had *only* this to say:

"Very regrettably, it is widely reported on social media that 75% of the fires were started by arsonists."

What are we to make of this statement?

@rahmstorf Fire trends are dominated by land management practices, and little affected by climate change. So climate change can't be blamed for Australia's current fires, nor credited for the global improvement.

CO2 & climate change certainly doesn't cause arson:
amp.brisbanetimes.com.au/national/queen…
@rahmstorf NASA measures fire trends by satellite:

earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/145421/…

earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/90493/r…

"...MODIS [satellite instruments have measured] a decrease in the total number of square kilometers burned each year. Between 2003 and 2019, that number has dropped by roughly 25%."
@rahmstorf Blaming fires on climate change is "cargo cult science." Fire severity depends mostly on land mgt practices, not air temperatures. Worst fire in US history was in chilly Wisconsin in October, 1871, when CO2 (estimated from ice cores) was only ≈288 ppmv.

Budgets and Bushfires: has government cost-cutting hindered firefighting? @MichaelWestBiz does some much-needed digging. The truth will shock. Bad enough to be saddled with a climate-denying gov but cost-cutting is the main reason why this inferno is now out of control
“How come we only had 4 trucks to defend our town?” pleaded distressed resident of Cobargo to Prime Minister Scott Morrison. “I’m not going to shake your hand until you give the RFS more funding,” another woman from Cobargo, Zoey, told the PM. Little did they know the truth.
Michael West found that spending on equipment dipped significantly in the years leading up to this terrible summer, and also that spending on “fire mitigation work” had fallen significantly.

It’s coming up on my 10 year (!) tape-i-versary for @Jeopardy, and with this week’s #JeopardyGOAT and last week’s ABC News Special featuring #ThankYouAlex, it seemed like a good time to share my #JEffect story
@Jeopardy In early 2009, I took the @Jeopardy online test - just like thousands of other people. And like many of them, I was invited to audition in person that spring.

[p.s. The online test is coming up Jan 28-30 - you should go for it! jeopardy.com/be-on-j]
@Jeopardy At the in-person audition, the other J! hopefuls were just as nervous / excited as I was, the test game gave me an idea of what it was like to use the buzzer, and the J! contestant coordinators made everyone feel like they had a personal cheerleading section.

I demand to know.

1. Why did implanted parachuted @ScottMorrisonMP refuse to meet with the fire experts roughly 300 days ago when we had a chance to take action?

2. Where are the Fire Bombers that have been offered.
You say you don't need them? So now your also a fire expert?
3. Why did it take you over 100 days to react to people's requests for extra assistance from when the fires started. It was not until you received huge social media recrimination that you actually responded of sorts.
But yes with more smart ass commentary, photo ops & Threats.
4. Your #Morrison have now killed over 1.25 million animals and there is no end in sight.

Had you met the experts they might have advised you to handle the fires differently in that instead of protecting just property they may have recommended all out assault on the fire core to

Climate change (also called global warming) refers to the rise in average surface temperatures on Earth.
It is one of the world's most serious problems and greatest challenges. There is no denying that climate change is real, and that it is due to human activity. nationalgeographic.com/environment/gl…

Overwhelmingly, scientists agree that climate change is due primarily to the use of fossil fuels which release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the air. These gases trap heat within the atmosphere and are having a wide range of…
