The thing about too many conservative "never Trumpers" is, push them on a topic that isn't directly related to their shame about Trump the man, and you see they're really no different from Trump, the idea.

Elliott Abrams committed war crimes and was convicted of lying about it.
But here come all these conservatives defending him as some great hero of democracy and human rights and it's like, no, sorry my right-wing dudes/dudettes, you don't get to re-write El Salvador and Nicaragua and Guatemala and Honduras. A lot of us remember what you did there.
What's sad about this, for me at least, is there are nuggets of wisdom in conservative thought - the risk of giving government too much power, the advantages of letting the market do some of the work in serving social goals e.g. clean energy, etc.
But when movement conservatives rush to embrace a *convicted* war criminal, it's easy to see why many folks just as soon throw the whole thing in the garbage, good ideas out with bad. These people are morally bereft.

I hope for conservatives' sake they get this right, some day.
Related, but good lord this is a bad time to have Abrams, of all people, as special rep to Venezuela. That country is in a real crisis and we send him? Just a demonstration of how unserious some conservatives are about foreign policy.
