There has been a lot of discussion online about why DOJ or the WH haven't been more public about this. 1/
It seems odd given the gravity of the claims against Hassan and does cater to concerns that DOJ is minimizing white supremacy. 2/
There may be other reasons suggested in the gap between the US claims and the rather minimal charges to date. So like many things in these investigations, more will unfold. 3/
There might be a conspiracy (with other defendants); the Coast Guard may have a serious and systemic review on its hands if Hasson had help/aid. 4/
What seems clear is Hasson was radicalized by political rhetoric, a phenomenon called stochastic terrorism. But there are some oddities that I'm not sure can be solely put on downplaying white supremacy terror (in this case only) 5/5
