I’m seeing so much crap on @Twitter from people who are, essentially, anti Socialist Labour (Corbyn,the person, is only a figurehead) and all these people have a vested interest in keeping the centrist status quo. The PLP members who have opposed Labour’s move back to its roots

are prime examples of people who hold a deeply entrenched form of egotism that has driven them since the beginning of their political careers. They are so convinced of their own “right to govern” that they see nothing more threatening to themselves than the rise of democracy.

When Corbyn was elected as leader (the first time) the majority of grassroots members, who, let’s face it, are the ones who do the footslogging to get MPs elected, were re-energised and the message that Corbyn and his fellow socialists were putting forward found fertile ground.

The ideas of fairness, re-nationalisation of certain key public services and utilities, protection for and investment in the NHS and the setting up of a national education service, to name but a few, were, and still are, hugely popular with the electorate.

But this didn’t please great numbers of PLP members at all! Corbyn was, after all, a rank outsider who wasn’t a member of “the club”. So how could the party membership have had the absolute gall and temerity to elect him as leader when they could have picked a good neoliberal?

And therein lies the heart of the visceral hatred of Corbyn by the disgruntled PLP (and their supporters, it must be said). “He’s not one of us”
But he does represent, still, the overwhelming majority of members’ aspirations. And this, despite all the vitriolic attacks.

And it ain’t over folks! They’ve tried everything, every dirty, underhand, dishonest and scurrilous trick they can find. He’s still standing. And the reason for that is that he’s always stuck to his principles and he’s always told the truth. Even if it makes him unpopular.

Because the truth is the truth. And the law is the law. And human decency is human decency. And most right thinking people understand this. And while his detractors rant and spew hatred and lies, they can’t alter the truth. They can only mask it, for a while.

So, these things I know. The far right is on the rise throughout Europe and The Americas, and it’s being orchestrated by dark but massively powerful, massively wealthy people who don’t have our interests at heart. Neither the Tory party nor the centrists will stop this.

The only force which has EVER truly resisted the right with its dogmas of hate and xenophobia and the concentration of wealth into the hands of a tiny minority at the expense of the vast majority, is socialism. There are those who want, above all else to kill it.

And they have powerful resources. The media are their allies.
We, on the left, have only the message of hope for things to get better for the many (though I know it’s going to be a long road back from where neoliberal capitalism has brought us to) and all we can do is be honest.

So, despite what I read daily, I shall continue to deliver the message of democratic socialism. And I shall continue to support the leadership (whoever the leader is). And I shall continue to hope for and work for a Labour government #forthemanynotthefew
