On March 6, 2018, Avenatti filed a complaint for declaratory relief in the case of Stormy Daniels vs. Donald Trump.

On May 8, Avenatti tweeted: "After investigation, we have discovered that Trumps atty Cohen received approximately $500,000 in the mos. after the election from a company controlled by a Russian Oligarc with close ties to Putin. These monies may have reimbursed the $130k payment."
Avenatti then tweeted: "The Executive Summary from our first Preliminary Report on Findings may be accessed via the link below. Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen have a lot of explaining to do."

Avenatti then provided the financial information over to CNN directly, which was used in Shimon Prokupecz and Kara Scannell's article, "Exclusive: Mueller's team questions Russian oligarch about payments to Cohen".

[THREAD] I’d like to take a break from sharing & commenting on political news reports for a moment & just offer some personal observations from where I sit in the DOJ

As always, I don’t speak for the @TheJusticeDept. These are just my personal thoughts, feelings, & observations
I’ve worked in multiple parts of the DOJ, including in the @FBI. I worked closely with Mueller, and like to feel like I got to know him fairly well. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him, and for his integrity
But more importantly, I got to know the FBI and other parts of DOJ. Wording it that way is part of our current problem, though. There is no “FBI” and “DOJ”. They aren’t monolithic beings with single thoughts. There are the *people* who work at the FBI and DOJ

One fact we can take away from 2017: Capital punishment is on the way out in America. The year is about to come to an end, so let's take a look back at some of the major events that occurred in the world of anti-death penalty work over the past 12 months. Thread:
An execution was scheduled for early January 2017 in Washington State. Governor Jay Inslee granted a reprieve and said he would do so in any similar situations in the future. The governor had announced a moratorium on executions in Washington back in 2014.
The new district attorney for Denver, Beth McCann, was sworn into office on January 10, 2017. District Attorney McCann pledged that her office would never seek the death penalty in any case.
