So, not many people may know this, but discrimination based on "ethnic" hair is a real thing with real consequences. And to think a law had to be passed.
Back in 2016, a third grader girl was sent home from school because her (natural) hair was deemed "inappropriate" and against the school's "code of conduct". thegrio.com/2016/05/08/bla…
Also from 2016, this article about employers demanding that Black women not wear their hair naturally, because their natural hair is deemed "unprofessional". She's asked to wear a weave at work. bbc.com/news/uk-362798…
Imagine that - you're asked to literally do something unnatural to your hair (wear a weave or get artificial extensions) just to be allowed to go to school or to work.
Imagine what that does to someone's self image growing up. You're told that how you look naturally is wrong, inappropriate, and unprofessional.
