Off to #SCOTUS.

#SCOTUS, February 25, 2019.

"[F]ederal judges are appointed for life, not for eternity," the Supreme Court rules in addressing a 9th Circuit cases that included the vote of Judge Reinhardt, who participated in the vote on the case, Yovino v. Rizo, but died before the vote was released. #SCOTUS

In short, as with Supreme Court practice, if a federal court's opinion has not been publicly released and a judge dies, the judge cannot cast a vote in the case. #SCOTUS

The Supreme Court granted one new case:
- Rotkiske v. Klemm, about the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act statute of limitations

No news on the Title VII LGBT cases, which have now been considered at 5 conferences since Jan. 4, or the Title IX case, which was removed from Friday's conference before it was considered. So, all remain pending. #SCOTUS

#SCOTUS Update: The Title VII and Title IX LGBT cases have all been scheduled/re-listed for Friday's conference, as has the Indiana fetal remains law case. The DACA challenges remain in limbo, however, with petitions still pending but not being scheduled for a conference.

Also: Lee Boyd Malvo's case, in which Virginia is seeking review of a 4th Circuit decision in Malvo's favor, is re-listed for Friday's conference. supremecourt.gov/search.aspx?fi…
