1. Just landed to what is big news for those in Labour who have been pushing for another referendum
2. Matters a lot for those who have been trying to get party leadership to be more concrete about notional commitment to another ref
3. As things stand tho Labour leadership knows there doesn’t seem enough support in commons for another referendum - remember there are labour MPs who’ll never back it - so it might be a free hit they never have to deliver on, while showing party membership they have tried but...
4. Does it make a difference to this week’s votes ? Maybe a bit ... and might hold back a few labour MPs thinking of leaving .... discuss
5. Not sure at this stage if it changes the fundamentals - Altho it eases some of the pain in the Labouur party - suggests staying in the tent matters for starmer but creates some more stress for Labour leavers and those in party who say they don’t want to change the result

1. Interesting - MPs who believe in Common Market 2.0 as Brexit compromise feel positive after seeing Corbyn this afternoon
2. A labour move to that position would anger referendum campaigners but it does have quite widespread, if not decisive, support in House (with usual caveats about how fluid everything is)
3. Last, fear of that kind of compromise poss getting thro parly is exactly why some Brexiteer ministers are pushing hard for deal to get thro next week or else Brexit becomes ‘soft, softer or meltdown’

This is entirely plausible - and what one cab minister at least hopes for - eu hypothetically says no to short extension with no concrete purpose - think this is part of reason for timing of MV 2 being pre summit - but careful strategy or making most of a mess? discuss
But if vote fails next week again, not sure why May any more likley to ditch her plan than she has been all along - if defeat of 230 didn’t shift her dramatically, not sure a hypothetical smaller defeat next week will if it goes that way
But there is total nightmare brewing over what to do next weds for No 10 if vote has fallen -they’ve given parly option to vote to delay and extend - but whichever way govt itself whip , likely to be resignations with unpredictable consequences-so is it the unthinkable free vote?

SNP amendment to rule out no deal also defeated - Spelman hasn't pushed her vote, then MP s pass Alberto Costa's plan for citizens' rights by shouting out.... (yes that's how it works)
So now on to the last vote, Yvette Cooper's amendment and they are formally voting on that
And this vote would get the Commons to approve formally the plan for a domino of votes in mid March set out by the PM yday

Big news for those who follow DOD at the end of this @WSJ story: Trump has decided to remove Mira Ricardel, the top deputy for national security adviser John Bolton. Ricardel has repeatedly clashed with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. wsj.com/articles/trump…
WSJ: The president became involved in that decision at the urging of first lady Melania Trump, whose staff battled with Ms. Ricardel during the first lady’s trip to Africa last month over seating on the plane and requests to use National Security Council resources
Ms. Ricardel also repeatedly clashed with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and his Pentagon team over staffing decisions and policy differences... That discord has created a chill in relations between Ms. Ricardel and Defense Department officials wary of her intentions

THREAD: I think we need to talk about the lefts stance on Party rebirth, & the holier than thou attitude that #Labour has on #libdems & tuition Fees. Given the rise of the far right & how much we actually agree on we really should be working together, so lets try to clear this up
For many of us @LibDems, we left @UKLabour when they voted & took us into Iraq.
Now the Labour left make the argument that Labour is not the same party that it was with Blair, & because Corbyn voted against Iraq; all must be forgiven. The party should be allowed to start afresh.
Fair enough. But if this was the case, why was Tim Farron nailed to the tuition fees cross by Labour campaigners at the last election? He voted AGAINST Fees in the same way Corbyn voted against Iraq.

First off, we must thank-you all. We launched a poll on Monday expecting maybe 500 responses maximum. Instead we had a whopping three-thousand-two-hundred-and-thirty votes on our Twitter poll.

That’s ridiculous.
We asked you which party you thought had the oldest average age of MPs.

Most of you, 66%, thought it was the @Conservatives, then the @LibDems (15%), then @UKLabour (14%), with the @theSNP coming in last with (5%).

I bet the SNP are feeling fairly youthful right about now.

The noises coming out of #Labour on racism towards Jews (let us call it that) are increasingly hollow.
Let's not even talk about the 1000s of oddballs in & around Labour, who rant on about "Zionists", etc like UKIPers talk about "immigrants", but we know where both are pointing.
