Noticing a lot of Strange New Respect for @JustinAmash this week, based on his non-clownish questioning of Michael Cohen and opposition to Trump's emergency-declaration on the border. @Reason has for years been covering/interviewing Amash closely; thought I’d share some of it.
Here’s Amash laying out some pretty specific ideas six weeks ago to @kmanguward about what kind of candidate the Libertarian Party (@LPNational) should nominate for president in 2020. (Hint: someone more like Amash than, say, @GovBillWeld.) reason.com/blog/2019/01/2…
Reminder: Amash recently proposed a bill that would slow down any federal government eminent domain seizures along the southern border (or anywhere else): reason.com/blog/2019/01/1…
Also, when Trump declared “I am a Tariff Man,” Amash shot back: “I am a Liberty Man.” (To which Ozzy rightly pointed out, “I AM IRON MAN!”) reason.com/blog/2018/12/0…
Here Amash explains to me how straight-ticket voting—where you just check off the Republican or Democratic box, and all candidates from that team get your vote—makes it “prohibitive to run outside of the major parties” in his home state of Michigan. reason.com/blog/2018/08/3…
And here he tells @nickgillespie that in order to push Paul Ryan’s House of Representatives in a more libertarian direction, "you [need to] change the Speaker of the House and have a libertarian Speaker of the House."

In September 2017, I asked Amash about the trajectory of federal spending, and he told me "It's looking bad….It's looking as bad as any time I've seen since I've been in Congress." (Note: He came to Congress in 2011.) reason.com/blog/2017/09/1…
July 2017: “I speak to young people all the time and try to encourage them not to be beholden to these two parties. They don't have to be Republican or Democrat, they can be something else…and hopefully, over time, these two parties start to fall apart.” reason.com/reasontv/2017/…
Remember when Trump’s social media guy advocating taking Amash out in a primary? Good times. (Note: Did not work.) reason.com/blog/2017/04/0…
When many in the GOP were still kissing Steve King’s ring, Amash, uh, wasn’t. reason.com/blog/2017/03/1…
I talked to Amash right after the first travel ban. “We cannot prevent every terrorist attack that is going to happen in the world, and we have to at some point trust some people,” he said.
