'Cluster bombs pose a particular threat to civilians for 2 reasons: they have a wide area of effect & they have consistently left behind a large number of unexploded bomblets. The unexploded bomblets can remain dangerous for decades' @simoncoveney @MichealMartinTD
'Cluster munitions are prohibited by the Convention on Cluster Munitions, adopted in Dublin in May 2008. 120 states have joined the Convention.'

Russia has not, & with Assad routinely uses these weapons which have devastating impact on civilians esp children in Syria.
A cluster bomb explodes in mid air & scatters dozens of bombs over a very wide area. They are designed to take out military targets eg an airport runway. Assad & Russia use them against towns & villages. About half explode, half do not & lie in wait for years. #PutinPariah
120 states believe cluster munitions should NEVER be used & have banned them. Yet no one says anything about Assad & Russia routinely using them vs civilians in Syria

The US is among the countries who have NOT signed the Convention so of course they have nothing to say
Unexploded cluster bombs lie in wait for decades. Among their victims are children, unwary or curious. @SyriaCivilDef hold classes for children in how to recognise them & what to do. Very brave White Helmets clear identified bombs.

@marywareham @MichealMartinTD @simoncoveney
@MichealMartinTD you oversaw signing of Convention on Cluster Munitions in Dublin. Fact that these disgusting weapons are being used every day ( see evidence @FARED60350386) against civilians in Syria needs to be highlighted. Russia needs to be condemned & sanctioned for this.
