Half the vices that exist are only unchecked virtues.
If a man had such love for his children that he forged bank notes to enrich them, he'd be turning a virtue into a vice. If he was so courteous about the feelings of others that he perjured himself rather than distress the prisoner in the dock, he'd be turning a virtue into a vice
If he had such reverence for his mother that he assisted her to commit murder, he would be turning a virtue into a vice.
And as a matter of fact every virtue is turned into a vice by millions of silly people, just as patriotism is. Domestic love is made an excuse for swindling, purity for scandal-mongering, public spirit for private advancement.

The lower classes live in a state of war, a war of words. Their readiness is the product of the same fiery individualism as the readiness of the old fighting oligarchs.
Any cabman has to be ready with his tongue, as any gentleman of the last century had to be ready with his sword. It is unfortunate that the poetry which is developed by this process should be purely a grotesque poetry.
But as the higher orders of society have entirely abdicated their right to speak with a heroic eloquence, it is no wonder that the language should develop by itself in the direction of a rowdy eloquence.

Logic and truth, as a matter of fact, have very little to do with each other.
Logic is concerned merely with the fidelity and accuracy with which a certain process is performed, a process which can be performed with any materials, with any assumption. You can be as logical about griffins and basilisks as about sheep and pigs.
The relations of logic to truth depend, then, not upon its perfection as logic, but upon certain pre-logical faculties and certain pre-logical discoveries, upon the possession of those faculties, upon the power of making those discoveries.

It cannot be too often repeated that what destroyed the Family in the modern world was Capitalism.
No doubt it might have been Communism, if Communism had ever a chance, outside that semi-Mongolian wilderness where it actually flourishes.
But, so far as we are concerned, what has broken up households, and encourages divorces, and treated the old domestic virtues with more and more open contempt, is the epoch and power of Capitalism.

The story used is of #Joseph son of #Jacob. His father loved him so much more than his brothers, leading to “natural” ill feelings towards him

His brothers wanted to kill him, but Reuben (in a moment of love) asked then to just put him in a hole, with plans to taking him back home later but did not follow up so he was sold into slavery

Just saw #vice. I have to say they managed to make Cheney likeable and human. Far from demonizing him or holding him to account, they gave him a free pass.
2. Cheney can and should be held to account from a conservative's position and from a ststesman's perspective but this analysis are yet to be written.
3. I'll say this once for anyone who is new to following me. Politicians are nasty people. If you want to be limed don't be a politician. The political decisions in his family show that.
