Jane Philpott resigns from cabinet, citing loss of 'confidence' over government's handling of SNC-Lavalin

The Treasury Board president leaves as controversy over political interference in criminal case intensifies

Philpott said:
“I must abide by my core values, my ethical responsibilities and constitutional obligations," she said in a written statement.

"There can be a cost to acting on one's principles, but there is a bigger cost to abandoning them."

2 women with an ethical backbone & principles in the Trudeau government
(The others put power over principles)

It’s pretty grim, that ethically bankrupt Harperites may well benefit from this remarkably unethical behaviour by the Trudeau govt

Canada isn’t the US.
This is not OK
Philpott and Wilson-Raybould did the right thing
Anyone in govt who abuses them is likely crooked

IMO, the US is in the mess it’s in, mainly because too many politicians and officials have put power, money, and the interests of cronies - before principles and the public interest
If Canada still has a just justice system, those involved should be charged.
If Canada’s justice system has become crooked like the US (where elites get off and cases don’t go to court - so there is no public evidence), instead they may get a large reward for quietly “resigning”
Was this the first time officials attempted to interfere?

Eg Given the dubious reputation of tobacco industry, one can’t help but wonder whether there was any attempted interference in the judicial system by anyone in the Tobacco industry liability case
