One of the more insightful things I've discovered since coming out is the simple peace of being truly comfortable in my own skin, even when others are not-so-taken with my appearance.
I clearly don't pass, and beyond that, I'm in a rather awkward stage of my transition where I'm not generally physically attractive. But I'm very, very comfortable with how I look. I legitimately feel gorgeous and confident. I like walking outside my door every day.
I compare this to when I was in the closet and while conventionally attractive in a "male" appearance, I felt uncomfortable all the time. I would look pretty great in a suit and still feel really out of my element and consistently unhappy. It didn't feel right on any level.
There's a strange and powerful liberation in being so at peace with how you present to the world that it doesn't matter what others think. I wish everyone could feel the way I do now. Honestly.
