1/4 Since it seems that the recent negotiations with the EU haven’t gone terribly well, the PM’s deal is likely to be defeated again on Tuesday. The Commons will probably then vote against a no deal Brexit and in favour of an application to extend Article 50 to give us more time.
2/4 Assuming an extension is agreed by the EU, which is likely, the next question will be what the Government and the House of Commons will use the extra time for?
3/4 We should hold a series of indicative votes, as suggested by the Brexit Select Committee, to see where there may be a majority for a different approach. This should include the option of going back to the British people to decide.
4/4 This week will be enormously important for the future of our country, but we need to recognise that it is the total lack of leadership we have seen from this Government that has created the current mess. If Government cannot lead, then Parliament must.
