If you’re doing deep, radical, transformative work in this period of great transition. You absolutely won’t see the fruits of your labour.
Don’t get lost in people who are looking for short term returns, pointless metrics & fudging outcomes out of people to justify themselves.

You have to work liberated by the fact you won’t really ever see the real results of your work. Even though the whole system is stacked up against you, to do that.

In times like these, it’s going to be a real brutal fight. Anyone whose money depends on being vanilla, pleasing those in high office, aren’t going to be able to do what’s need unfortunately; as much as that’s hard to swallow. So stop looking for it there.

They will also make sure you go bankrupt while trying, in order to say you were too radical, too this or that, not enough of this or that. Transitions need institutional responses, & new typologies fall through the gaps of not being enough or something & too much of something ...

... as their isn’t the language or boxes that they fit neatly into.

Every now & then brilliant, powerful, bold, radical, hopeful leadership will emerge from those with big resources to enable, but you have to work assuming that it never will, otherwise it’ll kill you, it doesn’t mean your labour isn’t important.

It’s just that it’s worth can’t be measured or described in current metrics of value & return, or by those who seek to lose a lot by things changing significantly.

Also in times like this, for many of us, much of this work is stuff is just ABC our communities & ancestors have been doing generations in deep ways. It’s just that now, academics & social innovators are writing up reports on it, making money off it & selling it back to us.

But, in times like this anti racist, deeply relational participatory community building, work, based on care, interdependence in sync with the planet & each other, at a neighbourhood & place level done generously is seen as radical. It’s all a colonial capitalist power game babs.

Imagine. This was all the very way of being for our ancestors, the same forces that tore much of this apart & set the planet alight are now selling back the solutions as consultancy. This is the reality you still have to turn up & fight, build & work in. It still matters.

Even though it sucks. Like big time.
