This time of year I spend all day in front of my computer, catching up on my clients' lives & preparing their tax returns. I know how much they make, what their homes cost, if their children are adopted, how much they pay for childcare & if their kids are in college. 1/3 
I know if they are charitable & which causes move them to donate, or if they attend a house of worship. I see their medical bills & I know if anyone is dealing with illness. I know if their careers & business are successful. I know if they have trouble paying their debts. 2/3
All of this information helps us to understand who the person is, and what they believe. That is why it is vitally important that every presidential candidate releases at least 10 yrs. of tax returns. We deserve to know who is asking for our support, and for our votes. 3/3
More to consider... In November, 2017 @realdonaldtrump said "people wouldn't understand" his tax returns. That may be true of many of the forms, but there is a lot we can learn from the basic 1040 & Schedule A many of us file. politico.com/story/2018/11/… 4/
We can look at the income reported on the very first page of a 1040 & see if it matches the taxpayer's lifestyle. We can learn a lot from the amount & type of charitable contributions, or lack of them. That's information we should insist on seeing before we elect a president. 5/
