Two things worry me: 1. May could offer a referendum only between her deal and no deal, on the basis that the question of Leave v Remain has already been decided. As much as I’d hate it, there’s a warped intellectual consistency to that. >>>
2. She could win it. All I hear from non-politico folk is “poor woman, I feel sorry for her”, especially after losing her voice last week. There’s little awareness that her WA passing, far from making all this go away, paves the way for another five years of it.
And actually a BIG 3. People underestimate how important personalities are. If May goes to EU summit and does another Salzburg, robotically repeating prepared lines, bringing no plan and no solutions, there’s a chance the EU27 might just send her packing with no extension.
