It was clear there were a number of next-generation young scientists emerging and doing very cool stuff in network science. This was very encouraging, and often their presentations were more interesting than others :) (1/5)
I felt that the scope of applications are expanding, and people are using fairly advanced modeling/analysis methods in each application. I will need to do some homework to catch up (2/5)
Perhaps due to the unique flavor of the venue, there were so many multiplex/multilayer studies presented at this year's @complenet. It is certainly becoming one of the standard modeling frameworks (3/5)
It was also interesting to see that relatively classic topics such as synchronization, phase transition and contagion were still major topics in this field. They never get old (4/5)
Meanwhile, I noticed the "we got this really cool massive data set so we analyzed it and found this and this" story is becoming a main stream research pattern. I think opportunities exist in other types of research that experimentally generate small yet unique data sets (5/5)
