A narcissistic psychopath’s enablers aid and abet their exploitation. They subscribe to his alternative reality. KAC’s use of this term was projection. Enablers either share the same pathology, are on the same spectrum as the abuser or are generally toxic, naive &/or brainwashed.
The role of enablers is abuse by proxy. They support the alternative reality and conceal, discredit and smear anyone supporting the truth about the abuser. Many victims find this secondary abuse by an entourage so pervasive it becomes surreal and the most damaging gaslighting.
The relationship of the enablers with the narcissistic abuser is a symbiotic, reciprocal exchange of narcissistic supply: they are made to feel important and special. They gain power and control. On the scale of Trump, it takes on the role of cult leader and cult.
The only solution is to stay grounded in integrity and truth. We can’t go no contact with the abuser but we can counter without becoming. It can be excruciatingly difficult. Luckily, at the very least, we are not them. Focus on decency.
