And that's a wrap for my first (and hopefully not last) trip to Valve HQ.

Thanks particularly to the Hardware & @SteamVR cabals for the hospitality and gifts to bring home down under, good thing Macy's was having a luggage sale!

My thoughts whilst there follows... (thread)
Disclaimer: These are just my personal insights from a short 2-week stint onsite. So please take them with a grain of salt.
With the #StoreWars, was a bit anxious on how a #UE4 dev and community lead will be welcomed.

Glad all my fears were unfounded. Valve engineers are more about the tech and not politics, which is refreshing. Not felt with kindred spirit since my days at Intel way back when.
Contractor or not, seniority or not. The meetings and informal huddles I've been to are very open and each person's views are taken seriously & weighed without any ego or class-politics. Truly collaborative.
Once NDAd up, secrecy isn't really a thing there. At least I didn't feel anything was hidden from me. I ask a question, and was answered up front with no qualms. I asked A LOT of questions. Even sensitive ones.
It can be intimidating to work with such talented people pushing the envelope of what is VR. But much respect to the engineers who are dte, all focused on what's best for the tech & consumer and NOT the bottomline at all. Valve and the team doesn't get enough credit I reckon.
While some companies in their position would've chosen to be greedy, the things that I have seen, Valve is a positive force in the VR industry at least.
Difficult to say more without breaking NDAs, but I hope in time some things they've done and are doing will get more credit from the #VR tech press in general.
