“Daddy who is the old woman that lives in the wardrobe in my room?" Asked little Amanda who was cuddled on my body this evening.. I love it when she does that...
2)
I asked my little Amanda what old woman?
"She always comes out from the wardrobe every night. She chats with me." Amanda replied.
Perspiration drops down my back, sending cold shivers down my spine.. Amanda is just 5 years old.
3)
"She said she is making me a new daddy. That your time is up. She always sews". Said my daughter while drawing on her book.
We went to Amanda's room..
4)
The wardrobe was in the house when we bought the house.. We dusted it then and kept some of Amanda's baby things inside. I opened the wardrobe...
5)
I had a mental recollection of what Amanda was drawing earlier.. Two figurines with an inscription "you are not my dad".. I couldn't recall the last time I felt this kind of trepidation. My heart was destroying my ribcage. Beads of perspiration assembled on my forehead..
6)
1 saw a man.. Something like a man.. With pieces of flesh sewn together like a patched cloth..faceless.. it stretched it's hands and grabbed my shoulders.
Then Amanda screamed and everything went dark! 😨
7)
After what seemed like eternity, I try to open my eyes but everywhere is dark. I try to reach out infront of me but I couldn't feel any of my appendages. I could hear Amanda's voice but it seemed far away. Like she was on another side.
8)
"Daddy let me help you get up" I heard Amanda say. But I couldn't feel her touch or her presence.
"It's okay baby" I heard myself say. No that wasn't me. That was my voice but that wasn't me. I didn't say that..
9)
I heard the door to Amanda's room open and someone walked in. "Mummy!" I heard Amanda shout. Panic overwhelmed me. Amanda's mum died on her 4th birthday. I told Amanda she traveled to another country because I too still grieve her.
10)
"Darling what is going on?" I heard her say. It was my dead wife's voice. "Come on get up. You bruised your head". I heard them walking out of the room. Three pairs of feet. They were leaving without me. I heard the door close. I started screaming but there was no sound...
11)
Everywhere was still dark. I noticed I wasn't even breathing. I am now the faceless man in the wardrobe and some people have my Amanda. 😱
12)
I stay in that tormented state. A consciousness filled with dread. Fear for my Amanda. I wish she could hear me. I wish she could know dad isn't really dad. I was helpless. What is going on?
13)
I could hear them moving around downstairs. I could hear faint voices. Amanda should be up to sleep anytime now. If I can be patient and wait. Maybe she will come to the wardrobe. Maybe she will find me...
14)
Suddenly I felt a sharp pain. I shouldn't be feeling anything. This wasn't my body. Then I heard a humming, a song I couldn't place. A song that filled me with sorrows, pains. It made me want to tear out my very essence. It was drawing at my very soul...
15)
I wanted to cry out in despair. Imagine the feeling of suffocation but your hands are tied and you can't move any inch of your body. That claustrophobic feeling. Yet the pain was immense. I wasn't suffocating, it was endless despair...
16)
The sensations of pain were sharp and relentless. I remembered what Amanda said "She is always sewing". Then I heard a voice, I felt a touch. It was a feminine voice.. "I must have my family back" it said. "And you are perfect. Just like my dear Ron"...
17)
"i know you can hear me". The voice continued. "Don't worry, we will take care of Amanda, just like my little princess" And then she laughed a crooked laughter inside my mind...
18)
She continued sewing. Imagine crying without tears. Pains without screams. All I could think of was Amanda's face, her beautiful smile. I have lost everything. Even Amanda too..
19)
"I have to go tuck Amanda in now. You stay right here Ron" the voice said. She called me Ron! Who in the world is Ron!!!! Suddenly I hear the door to Amanda's room open and I hear my dead wife's voice "You sleep now darling. Mummy will still be here in the morning"...
20)
I wanted to scream out to Amanda. Call her name and tell her that dad is inside here. "Why is daddy not reading me stories tonight" Amanda asked. "Daddy doesn't feel too well" she replied Amanda. "He hasn't talked since he fell" Amanda said. "Sleep now" said the not-my-wife..
21)
"Mummy why are tying me to the bed" I heard Amanda ask. "Mummy stop that hurts". Frustration wanted to make me run mad. What was she doing to my baby. Amanda started screaming and calling out my name. "Stop struggling, I just want to cut out your face...
22)
...and give you hers" I heard whatever she was say. I screamed. Even called out to my dead wife. Amanda's cries were tearing into the night. Suddenly there was a loud explosion and sounds like shattered glasses..
23)
All I could think was "Baby be fine please." My little Amanda. "No.. No.. You shouldn't be here. I already took your form" I heard her say. "Leave my family alone!" I heard another voice. But this voice filled me with longing, nostalgia and warmth...
24)
It was pulling me.. It was drawing at my essence. "Amanda get daddy from the wardrobe" I heard the voice say.. Then I heard a cackling "I must have my family back" this was the dreadful not-my-wife. Suddenly I felt a sinking feeling.. Like I was falling from a height..
25)
I heard Amanda call me daddy. The wardrobe opened, I could see light a bit now, I saw her. My wife but she was very faint. Like an apparition. Then everything went dark within the darkness.. I woke up on my bed drenched with sweat..
26)
I ran straight to Amanda's room. As I opened it, there was a fading glow in her room. The air was sizzling. I ran to her side. She was sleeping but was sobbing with tears running down her eyes. I wiped them and she opened her eyes and said "Thank you mummy" and slept off...
27)
The next morning.. Amanda came down to the kitchen for breakfast. She looked gloomy. "Baby how are you?" I asked. She didn't talk. "Baby?".. She looked up and said "Mummy said we should get a new house". I didn't doubt her. I was planning on getting rid of the wardrobe but..
28)
We might as well leave this house. It wouldn't be the same again. In the silence, I could see my wife in Amanda. Her eyes and the set of her face. I knew Amanda knew. I knew it wasn't just a dream.
1week later...
The old man down the street came up to me as we were moving out. "It's time this house got demolished" he said to me. "Is there more?" I asked. "You experienced it didn't you" he replied. "Her spirit will always want her family. They died horribly". He walked away.
