i think a lot of my peers believe that if you got elected to public office and screamed at meetings a lot you could shake things up but they've been electing absolute whackjobs for centuries and you'd just fade into the noise
every single time city hall in any city does anything, the same guy named Nolan shows up and everyone just sighs and looks at their phone while he yells about the zoning change that closed Chumpky's on 11th. it was in 1996 and he shows up to every. meeting.
so they're already used to ignoring passionate people, but then they have a vote on road safety and Councilman Fred Dicklong gets his turn to speak and literally stands on a desk and does beat poetry for 35 minutes. everyone looks at their phones
i've read minutes and watched footage from a number of halls of cities and this shit happens everywhere as far as i can tell, it's just not very notable
there's always a guy who wants you to talk to him about his snow crab proposal
that's not saying don't try to get a public office and change things just, things are not nearly as quiet in Government as they seem if you don't spend a lot of time looking at the minutiae
