Teachers have so much impact on how children perform in school, either positive or negative.
I remember being in love with a subject simply because the teacher was amazing, and other times just being disinterested because the teacher wasn't good.
I still remember when I went to a gifted program. I was 1 of 2 black kids that I knew of there. A teacher made what may have seemed to him like an innocent joke about whether I should be the program. That stung hard.

But look at me now so f- that guy 😎
One thing I'm frequently bothered by is how often resilience is necessary for black kids to thrive in schools where they are just a few. Heck they have to be resilient in schools where they are "too many" too since that often tracks with poorer funding, environment, etc
I want to see more non-resilient, let's say "typical" kids make it through schools because they don't have to face down teachers who doubt they should be there or doubt they are capable of making it there.
I've always been driven by showing up those who doubted my intelligence (meh, no time for therapy now), but a lot of kids just get beaten down by the same words that I used to drive me forward. It's not fair to put that on kids' ability to push through adult-imposed adversity.
@DogWithOpinions this is just a part of what you were talking about with the education system failing minority kids.
"should be in"*
