This new house Dem health care bill is deeply disappointing and pathetic. Would it be an improvement on the status quo if it become law? Yes for a segment of people but it isnt passing so it is a message and as a message bill it is bad. 1/
It does nothing for most people struggling with health care cost (no broad drug reform, no suprise billing fix, no monopoly break up, no public option, etc...) and it only real solution for the small exchange population is throw more money not fix price issues 2/
Usually a message bill is big and what you finally get once in power is like 50% of what was in the messaging bill. 50% of this minor reform would almost nothing. Plus the message is just bad 3/
Basically the message this bill sends is Dem think the only problem is they didnt subsidies private insurance enough and most people are fine and don't need help 4/
People have claimed this message bill is "actually good" because it could go into effect right away in 2021, except it can't. It is too liberal to get 8+ GOP senate votes to stop a filibuster and would be a disaster if this is all Dem did with reconcilation. 5/
It only makes sense in a world where Dem had promised to kill the filibuster and they are no where close to that yet so it is a bad message bill. Until filibuster is dead Dem get at most only one health care bill every decade and it better not be this lame bill. 6/
