I see a lot of people expressing frustration with their jobs, workplaces, fields, organizations and churches. Ours is a frustrated age—especially when it comes to working and waiting for change. We don’t like combination—working AND waiting. We’d rather it wait. We want change.
But the truth is: lasting positive change almost never comes by revolution. And any successful revolutionary has to almost immediately switch gears to governing, managing, and incremental progress. If they’re not careful, revolutionaries are eaten by the children of sudden change
So most people are faced with the “dreadful” situation of simultaneous working AND waiting. Usually the younger you are the harder the waiting part. And that’s a shame because the younger you are the less work expertise you have. You get unproven folks wanting immediate change.
So, the frustrated have a choice to make: go or stay? What many don’t understand is that BOTH require faith. It takes as much faith to stay when changenis slow or not evident as it does to break out and start/try something new or different. Either way, the just walk by faith.
And sometimes people fail to recognize that there are multiple ways of both going and staying. For example, you could do both either poorly or well, suddenly or gradually, and so on. But at the bottom, we’re faced with the two options that have four basic variants.
The four options are:

1. Stay, work, do not despise small things.

2. Leave, work, seek new alliances.

3. Leave altogether: leave the work, leave the relationships/field, leave the conversation.

4. Stay and quit.

But 4 is not an option, though many do it. It lacks integrity.
If you’re in a frustrating context and you’re struggling with the rate of change, make one of the three decisions above and then ride it out with faith in God.

None of this applies to abusive situations, just the ordinary weaknesses. If it’s abusive, leave immediately. Get help.
We’d rather *not* wait.
