QUESTION: Has anyone gone back to ask Matt Schlapp (@mschlapp), whose wife Mercedes works for Trump, how he knew William Barr would *quickly* ensure Trump was safe from Mueller almost immediately after Barr was appointed? Who told Schlapp that, and why, and when—and on what info?
@mschlapp I ask this question because it really seems as though Barr came into the AG job having already made up his mind about what he'd do on Obstruction if Mueller did *not* find proof beyond a reasonable doubt on the very narrow issue of Conspiracy (as opposed to all collusive crimes).
@mschlapp In a closed-door meeting with Republicans this week that Trump explicitly said he did *not* want *any* information leaked from, Trump beamed about how wonderful Barr was, and said that people in the room had *assured* him that Barr would do the sort of job Trump wanted him to do.
@mschlapp It's certainly sounds like Trump and the Schlapps were absolutely certain about what Barr would do on Obstruction many weeks before Mueller's summary of his case file reached Barr's desk. All I'm asking is what made everyone so confident *despite* what Barr had said to Congress.
@mschlapp Remember that Barr admitted to Congress that he'd spoken to Trump and the investigation had come up but Barr insisted he'd said nothing specific about anything. It seems like people close to Trump came away with a very different impression of either that or related conversations.
