Brexit moron just cost me £375: Speculated Brexit protestor spent night on roof of St Pancras ➡️ #Eurostar delayed ➡️ Missed my flight ➡️ £375 airline fee to reschedule. Not a political statement, just collateral cost of an idiot with a flag on a roof. 1/n independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/…
2/n: Frustrating that @EurostarUK didn't forewarn passengers this morning (at least me), even tho, according to one fellow passenger, protestor was trespassing since LAST NIGHT. Passenger's train last night was cancelled. My family got up at 4am to take me to St Pancras.
3/n: Even more frustrating is that Eurostar's website indicates they won't compensate domino-effect travel expenses. RT/Like to encourage them to defy expectations! #EurostarDelays

4/n: To look on the bright side, UK MEP @MollyMEP - who I coincidentally had the pleasure of sharing a press conference with last week at EU Parliament - made me smile at the irony of a Brexit protestor preventing a UK MEP from leaving Brussels 😆.
5/n: On a more serious note, I also discovered that St Pancras has the worst-designed loo roll dispenser in modern history: What do you do if the paper breaks before it exits the hole?? That's your only lifeline gone.

This is weak sauce -- an ahistorical false dichotomy. As my friends @NaomiOreskes & @MichaelEMann note in #ClimateChangeTheFacts: evidence alone has floundered in the face of 30y of climate denial & delay by fossil fuel interests & conservative ideologues. Let’s debunk. THREAD
2/n: First, @Anna_Soubry's point is ahistorical: The assertion that facts alone will win the day is contradicted by scholarship & experience, including history of climate politics, climate psychology, communication science, political science, & decades of advocacy & policymaking.
3/n: As I testified to EU Parliament last month, the fossil fuel industry has *known* the basic facts of climate science for 60 years: that its products, when used correctly, had the potential to cause catastrophic global warming.

A declaration of interpretation is a unilateral statement to a treaty that tries to specify / clarify the meaning of teh treaty. They are commonly associated with multilateral agreements, but sometimes they are also made with regard to bilateral agreements.
When trying to classify such a unilateral statement the first question that arises is: is this really a declaration of interpretation, or is it a reservation in disguise - because Art. 2 of the VCLT defines the term “reservation” though its effects rather than its title

Petit thread pour vous donner une idée de ce que ça peut être un trajet « vu de devant » de Londres à Paris. Ce matin, le réveil sonne à 03:45, ça pique un peu. Direction la gare de St Pancras pour préparer le 9080, premier #Eurostar à quitter la capitale britannique. 1/
C’est une rame TMST modernisée (qu’on appelle aussi E300) la 3211 qui sera utilisée. La préparation de la rame inclu une visite des compartiments moteur à la recherche d’éventuelles anomalies. Ce matin, rien à signaler. 05:25 l’embarquement commence. 2/
Je pars de Londres à l’heure, dans la pénombre du matin. Vite je m’engouffre dans les London Tunnel qui me permettent de traverser les faubourgs de la capitale à 230km/h. A la sortie, je constate que le jour commence à poindre son nez. 3/

The ERG hates the backstop. They want a unilateral exit clause - but the more they talk about that, the more the EU and Irish are going to cling to the need for a backstop that guarantees no return to a hard border. /2
@theresa_may But let us say, for sake of argument, that the ERG gets its way.

The brave new PM (Raab, Boris, DD or whoever) rides into Brussels with an ultimatum: it's the deal-minus-backstop, or No deal.

And against all the odds and predictions of smart alecs like me, the EU caves... /3

1. The ERG have proven adept at making noise but they don't seem to be able to grasp policy. They get shot down every time they put their heads above the parapet and they have not been able to produce a credible alternative to chequers. #Brexit thread...
2. With philandering Johnson having blown his window of opportunity and the ERG seemingly backing down it looks like May will survive until Brexit day. That, though, does not change the fact that Chequers is a non-starter.
3. So given that member states are not prepared for a no deal Brexit any more than we are the Eu will want to buy time so will agree to a much more vague political statement on trade just to get the withdrawal agreement in the bag. That will still require an NI backstop.

1) a competent opposition would have forced the hand of the Tory Gov. 18 months ago by saying "no, we won't trigger Article 50 until we see a #Brexit plan"
Even if they'd lost the vote, they'd have the high ground
They'd now be making political capital with Leavers & Remainers
2) a competent opposition would now be saying "we knew the Tories had no plan, and now we are on a 2 year timescale, and time is running out - what a shambles"

An election winning #Brexit neutral position which makes Brexit about Tory incompetence & recklessness

Unfortunately..
3) this opposition can't attack the Tories for triggering A50 with no plan, because Labour went along with it

Not only did they allow the "overwhelming vote for A50" line to surface, they have nowhere to go in attacking the Government, because they voted for A50 with no plan too

1. In case it wasn’t already clear - Germany’s position on Brexit will not change. The U.K. has a history of over-relying in Germany in EU negotiations. (Cameron made this mistake too.)
