Poverty is soul crushing and escaping its velocity is more difficult than most imagine, and is especially so in our current political and economic environments.

It is no longer about working hard and keeping your nose to the grindstone. It depends on a multitude of forces.

1/
And one of those forces is luck.

Add extenuating circumstances like a person's minority status, chronic disease, depression/mental health problems, or a trashed credit rating and the situation becomes even more inescapable.

This system is inhumane on its best day.

2/
As we hurl toward our undoubted dystopian future, please take time to appreciate the difficulties & worsening realities of the impoverished.

And poverty has many faces today. It is not all indigent drug addicts. It never was.

Today poverty can look, in the surface, mundane.

3/
Just because someone has a phone or a nice jacket does not mean that those aren't literally the last vestiges of a former reality.

Some people hold on to those last threads witn a determination to rival any.

4/
As I face what I hope to be my final dance with impovershnent I am determined to wrestle through it with eyes wide open and nod toward the future.

I will fight for a better system because of what I have and continue to experience.
.
A system that is the enemy of Trumpism
