Tory George Eustice pretty much sums up the level of discourse by saying he’ll back Norway Plus and then slamming a customs union. I guess someone didn’t go to today’s tutorial
Sammy Wilson makes a very valid point. Norway Plus has to be negotiated - that means the backstop stays and may have to be used if the sides can’t agree on eg agriculture access. Another thing that Norway Plus folks need to be honest about: it’s a leap of faith, not a done deal
Wow, looks as though Norway Plus is going to edge it tonight. Lots of Tories coming on board. If you’d told me this in December 2016 when those same Tories were calling us traitors for proposing it we could have saved ourselves a court case

Oh god. May still thinks we can avoid participating in the European elections. Even now, she is in complete denial. It can’t work, and it won’t.
Be very clear. May, even now, yet again, is trying to trap MPs. She talks the language of unity and consensus but it’s the same old trick as before: to bind us into a cliff-edge of 22 May, by which time it will be too late to extend any further. As always, it’s this or the abyss.
It’s the most astoundingly cynical manoeuvre. She knows full well that if we haven’t even agreed what deal says, we can’t possibly have it enshrined in law by 22 May. So don’t be fooled. It’s the usual blackmail. We need a long extension or there’s no point asking for any at all.

This is key. May’s deal won 286 votes on Friday, at its absolute limit. People’s vote won 280 today, with Cabinet ministers barred from voting. May’s deal lost by 58 and people’s vote lost by 12. If she thinks she can do it, show us where her extra votes are coming from. It’s on.
Another point: 15 Tories came round to people’s vote tonight. Last week it was just 8. People like Nick Boles, Mike Freer, Mark Garnier, Margot James, moderates who are finally finding the courage to think beyond May’s straitjacketed box. We must work even harder. More can come.
As for Labour: yes, two dozen voting against ref is disappointing. But still, there was movement. Last week 198 voted for ref and 27 against. This time it was 203 and 24 against. I know it’s not yet good enough. But there is momentum - in both senses of the word

So we’re all clear, that deal that a couple of weeks ago betrayed 17.4m people now needs to be voted through so those 17.4m people don’t get betrayed
Also, what? Shame on DUP? The people who voted to keep UK in full internal alignment in accordance with their most basic principle, and which used to send the Sun into orgiastic celebration? Does Sun really want Brexit more than an economic Union? Because it’s time for choices

I am so impressed by this thread, and I think that, though she is speaking only for herself, @rgunns is modeling (yet again) the type of leadership we need to navigate our intertwined crises, of which climate change is just one example.
I mean, of course we don't know what to do.
Anyone who offers certainty about how to transform the economy away from its polluting base in a matter of decades while protecting people and addressing profound inequities should not be trusted, in my opinion.

I got a copy when it came out but went ahead and got more when the book came out. I've seen these plays live and they're breathtaking and I love them and in honor of this sale I'm going to go off for a while with a list of Mormon Lit recommendations and reasons I like each.
I'll start with these plays. @mel_leilani's films (Freetown and Jane & Emma) are more widely known and are both important milestones in Mormon cinema. But Mel is at her very best writing for the intimacy of the stage.

Essentially the #PVdodgyDossier repeats a few easy-to-discredit old anti-EEA myths, with a smattering of deeper research meant to be authoritative yet isn't. Shame as the author @jonlis1 is a solid researcher let-down by not knowing the law & having his work "edited" by PV.
I have covered two of the myths ("rule taker" and "continuing contributions") in this article. reaction.life/eea-efta-can-f… This is probably as good a place to start as any to understand why the #PVdodgyDossier is so unreliable.

I believe it's time for me to start my reflections on NT Wright's Gifford Lectures. I'll comment on each lecture after finishing it to simulate live-tweeting. Buckle up, folks. Here we go. #NTWGifford
The opening lecture is titled "The Fallen Shrine: Lisbon 1755 and the Triumph of Epicureanism" and looks at the modern age and how this relates to the study of natural theology & the historical Jesus. It is almost exactly what I expected.
NTW wants to show how modernity is this great atheistic orgy in which God is removed from politics, economics, science, and even Jesus. To make it sound a bit more respectable, he labels everything in modernity "Epicureanism."
