Oh god. May still thinks we can avoid participating in the European elections. Even now, she is in complete denial. It can’t work, and it won’t.
Be very clear. May, even now, yet again, is trying to trap MPs. She talks the language of unity and consensus but it’s the same old trick as before: to bind us into a cliff-edge of 22 May, by which time it will be too late to extend any further. As always, it’s this or the abyss.
It’s the most astoundingly cynical manoeuvre. She knows full well that if we haven’t even agreed what deal says, we can’t possibly have it enshrined in law by 22 May. So don’t be fooled. It’s the usual blackmail. We need a long extension or there’s no point asking for any at all.
