Cartels are enemies of both the American people and ordinary Mexican people. In my years of working and traveling throughout Mexico, I met countless business owners in Mexico who had been extorted and terrorized by cartels. Our @POTUS @realDonaldTrump understands this reality.
When and if cartel-driven violence and corruption can be reduced within Mexico, it will have a dramatic effect on the Mexican populous trying to flee their own country. @realDonaldTrump is taking the right steps to protect American sovereignty. It's time for #Mexico to get
serious about implementing anti-corruption measures within their own legislature and state governments. Such a concept might sound so absurd, it's difficult for us as Americans to believe it would be possible. I spoke with politicians in Mexico for many years and as a result
I understand skepticism on both sides of the border (Mexicans are skeptical about their own government, as much or even more than Americans are) yet I do believe Mexico responds to fiscal and law enforcement pressure from OUTSIDE its borders. That means the pressure needs to
stay on #Mexico, the realities of Mexican corruption need to continue to be exposed so Americans can better understand exactly what our partners to the south have been up to. And with time, and enough political and fiscal influence, things -can- change. @realDonaldTrump is one of
the first American Presidents to have taken the time to learn about and understand all of this. Trump is also, I believe, the first American President in a long time to have the audacity and courage to speak outwardly about the realities of Mexican corruption and do something
about it. Things in Mexico are more complicated than you might imagine. As an American I assumed, 20 years ago when I first set up business there, that things would be simple. In reality it's a huge population, with a highly bureaucratic system of government. It's complicated.
There are more issues to be resolved than many may imagine. The border wall will be a great first step towards securing the southern border and slowing the flow of illicit activities. Much more remains to be done, I'm confident @realDonaldTrump will continue to find solutions.
